Determination of Barbit Acid Using Weisz - Ring Oven Technique

A method has been reported through which barbituric acid can be determined within the range from 0.50 to 10.00 J.lg with error of - 4.83 and - 2.90% in case of Segment Technique and Standard Scale methods respectively, using the Weisz Ring-oven method. Effect of interferences by sodium barbitone, guanidine carbonate urea and ethyl malonate have also been studied. The method is quite suited to routine analysis of the substance for its purity checking.read more

Bormination of Some Aromatic Compounds by Bromine in Acetic Acid

Bromination of some aromatic compounds is effected by means of bromine in acetic acid medium in the presence of a mixture of zinc dust and iodine as a catalyst. The compounds investigated here are classified according to their behaviour towards the brominating agent into' (a) compounds which undergo full bromination, (b) compounds which are partially brominated, and ~~) compounds which are unchanged by the brominating agent.read more

Synthesis of Tin (IV) Complexes of coordinates Number Six

A 1:2 adduct of tin tetrachloride with substituted urea was reported. By applying different techniques and conditions various coordination complexes of tin (IV) have been obtained. A series of tin (IV) complexes were synthesized and identified by the reaction of SnQ4 or the disubstituted tin (IV) tetrachloride, R2SnCI2, with 1,3-disubstituted urea or thiourea. In all these complexes, the coordination number (4) of tin is thus inereasedto (6). The complexes were characterized by elemental analysis as well as by physical methods such as i.r., lH-n.m.r. and mass spectroscopy.read more

Acidic Fuctional Group on the Surface of Animal Charcaol

The surface acidity of the technical grade animal charcoal degassed at various temperatures was determined with bases of different strengths. The acidity on the surface of charcoal could be attributed to atleast two surface functional groups. The one which showed maximum decomposition at 300oC. might be a CO2 evolving group. The other which still remained and appreciable amounts even when the charcoal was degassed at 700oC, might be some Co evolving group.read more

Effect of the Substituents on the Infrared Adsorption of 2H-pyran-2-ones

Infrared carbonyl and carbon-carbon double bond frequencies in appropriate solution, solid state and nujol are presented for a number of substituted 2H-pyran-2~nes. The effect of- the substituents at the 3-,4- and 4,6-positions on the carbonyl absorption frequencies of the 2H-pyran-2one has been interpret~d in te~s of chemical effects. The influence of the amino group at the 3position, p-methoxy phenyl at 4 or 4,6-positios and hydroxystyryl at the 6-position of the 2-Hpyran-2~De has been found to lower the carbonyl absorption significantly as compared to the generally reported value of 1700 em-I OJ; above 1700 em-I.read more

Reaction of 1,5-Distituted -iondoline-2,3-dione with Arorylhydrazine

1,5-Dimethyl-indoline-2,3-dione when treated under various conditions with benzoyl hydrazine yields 1,5-dimethy1-3-{benzoylhydrazono)-indolin-2~ne. Spectral data of hydrazone and its benzoyl/acetyl derivative indicate that there is an intramolecular hydrogen bonding in I between the imino proton of hydrazone residue and t"e C-2 carbonyl group. read more

Some Liquid Phase Photobrominations of Biphenyl

Liquid phase photobromination of biphenyl (50-600q yields 0-, m-, and p-bromobiphenyls, accompanying small amount of side-products, possibly adducts. The isomer distributions were measured by gas liquid chromatography. Unlike many heterolytic reactions, substitution at the meta-position takes place quite significantly. Tentative explanation for these fmdings are being communicated. Relative rates and partial rate factors for photobromination of biphenyl and bromo benzene were also derived. Results are discussed on the basis of the reactivity of biphenyl against the attacking bromine radicals. The validity of the competitive methods is also taken into consideration.read more
